Baptism

Baptism is the first if the “sacraments of initiation” it is the first sacrament we receive; it is the gateway to the other sacraments and the basis for the entire Christian life. Through the sacrament of baptism we are reborn and begin new lives in Christ, we are adopted into the Christian family, and we become children of God, baptism is also the first and main sacrament of forgiveness of sins.
Most of us were baptised as young children but some adult converts must also be baptised (this often happens at the Easter vigil). When we were baptised we were either immersed in water or had water poured over our heads while at the same time the celebrant invoked the name of the Holy Trinity, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
